Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is an evidence-based approach for chronic pain that helps people understand how the brain and nervous system can sometimes continue producing pain even after an injury has healed or when there is no ongoing tissue damage. Through education, mindfulness, and techniques that help reinterpret pain sensations as less threatening, PRT aims to reduce the brain’s learned danger response and change the patterns that maintain pain. Treatment focuses on building a greater sense of safety and confidence in the body while gradually returning to meaningful activities. PRT can be especially helpful for certain forms of primary or neuroplastic chronic pain.
